Points System
- Win → 2 points
- Loss → 0 points
- No Result / Abandoned → 1 point each
Teams that win more matches move higher in the points table
Teams that lose more matches stay at the bottom
When two teams have the same points, Net Run Rate (NRR) decides ranking.
- NRR shows how fast a team scores vs how fast they concede runs
- Positive NRR → Team is performing well
- Negative NRR → Team is struggling
Simple idea:
- Score more runs in fewer overs
- Give fewer runs in more overs
Big wins = better NRR
Head-to-Head Record
If points and NRR are the same:
Check matches between the two teams
Team that won more against the other ranks higher
Other Tie-Breakers
If still equal:
- Total wins in the tournament
- Fair Play Points (team discipline & behavior)
This situation is very rare
Matches Format in IPL
- Total teams: 10
- Each team plays 14 matches
- Round-robin format:
- Some teams play once
- Some teams play twice
Matches are played:
- Home grounds
- Away grounds
What Happens When Points Are Equal?
Follow this order:
- NRR
- Head-to-head
- Total wins
- Fair Play Points
Playoff Qualification System
Top 4 Teams Qualify
- 1st vs 2nd → Qualifier 1
- Winner → Final
- Loser → Gets another chance
- 3rd vs 4th → Eliminator
- Loser → Out
- Winner → Goes to Qualifier 2
- Qualifier 2
- Winner → Final
Top 2 teams get 2 chances (big advantage)
